Thunderbirds and YMCA Partner in Jr. Thunderbirds Basketball League

September 28, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release

Rio Rancho, NM - The NBA Development League New Mexico Thunderbirds and the YMCA of Central New Mexico have agreed to a partnership for the 2010-11 season. Highlighting the agreement is the continuation of the Jr. Thunderbirds YMCA youth basketball league, which will be open to kids from ages 4-17.

YMCA players and coaches will be given the opportunity to meet Thunderbirds players and coaches and work with them at various clinics. In addition to on-court instruction, the Thunderbirds will also be hosting a YMCA group night and Jamboree kick-off event to begin the youth season.

"The YMCA of Central New Mexico is very excited about continuing our partnership with the New Mexico Thunderbirds at the Santa Ana Star Center. The YMCA invented basketball over 118 years ago and it makes a lot of sense to have the YMCA associated with our NBA Development League team. Coach Ham and his staff will be hosting coaching clinics for our volunteer coaches and there will be player clinics with Coach Ham as well. It is amazing to have an NBA D-League coach, who is a former NBA player himself, help our young players and coaches improve their skills in the game of basketball," said YMCA of Central New Mexico president Doug Nakashima.

Registration for the Jr. Thunderbirds YMCA winter league will run from Nov. 6-28 and will be held at each of the Albuquerque and Rio Rancho YMCAs. The 2010-11 youth season runs from December to March.

Thunderbirds season tickets are currently on sale with full and partial season packages available. For more information call 505-265-3865 or visit www.nmtbirds.com.
