Thunder wins again

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington PrairieThunder kept its hold on first place in the International Hockey League standings with a 3-2 victory over Flint before 2,056 people Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The triumph was the third straight overall and at home for the PrairieThunder, which raised its record to 4-2 (8 points). Bloomington is tied for the league lead with Port Huron and Fort Wayne. The loss dropped Flint's record to 2-5 (4 points).

Zac Pearson scored the first Bloomington goal on a power play with 4:32 remaining in the first period off assists by Brett Holmberg and Ryan Finnerty. Neither team scored in the second period.

Rookie Jesse Dudas gave the PrairieThunder a 2-0 lead 2:44 into the third period on an even-strength goal with assists to Craig Macdonald and Pearson. Flint cut the lead to 2-1 on a power play goal by Jamie Schaafsma with an assist to Tony Tuzzolino at the 16:22 mark of the third period.

Macdonald then scored what proved to be the winning goal with 12:01 remaining on a power play goal th an assist by Jamie Carroll. Flint got its final goal from Greg Bullock on an unassisted effort on a power play.

Bloomington goalie Paulo Colaiacovo won his third straight game by stopping 27 of 29 shots. The PrairieThunder had 39 shots and was 2 for 5 on the power play. Flint was 2 for 4.

The PrairieThunder returns to action Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. contest against Quad City at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. All ladies tickets are half price and there are $2 specials on draught beer, hot dogs, sodas and popcorn.
