
Icehawks Remain Perfect On Home Ice

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks scored twice in the third period on Saturday to top the Dayton Gems 3-1 at McMorran Arena. With the win, the first place Icehawks remain perfect on home ice this season (3-0) and improve to 4-1-0-0 overall.
Icehawks left wing Tab Lardner extended his point streak to five games and put his team on the board with a goal at 13:05 in the first period. Mike Kinnie and Ian Turner assisted.
The second period almost went scoreless, until Dayton forward Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn evened the score with just 15 seconds left in the stanza.
Port Huron regained the lead in the third period when rookie Mikael Bedard beat Dayton goalie Ryan Mior to record his first goal of the season and the game winner at 7:45. He was assisted by Mike Bray and Kerry Bowman.
The Icehawks made it a two goal game less than five minutes later, when Kinnie netted his sixth goal of the season and extended his goal streak to three games to boost the score to 3-1. Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling assisted on the play.
The Icehawks were two for five on the power play and killed off four penalties to leave the Gems scoreless with the man advantage.
The Icehawks outshot the Gems 32-18 in the win. Port Huron goalie Sterling made 17 saves to win improve his personal record to 3-0-0-0 this season, while Gems goalie and former Port Huron player Mior turned aside 29 shots.
The Icehawks return to action next weekend with a pair of home games and a road contest. The Icehawks will host the Bloomington PrairieThunder on both Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., then travel to Dayton to battle the Gems at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Friday is Beatles Night at McMorran Arena. On Saturday, the first 500 fans will receive a free oversized trading card.
