Thunder Torched by Tulsa

Youngstown, OH. - The Tulsa Talons scored on ten of eleven possessions and took advantage of four Thunder turnovers for their second win over Mahoning Valley in the last three weeks. The lone possession in which the Talons were held scoreless was the game's final drive when Tulsa chose to take a knee and run the clock out. In two meetings this season, Tulsa has outscored Mahoning Valley 145-65.

Talons signal caller Justin Allgood had a monster game for the visitors, completing 24 of 32 passes for 336 yards and nine touchdown passes. In two games against Mahoning Valley, Allgood has thrown 15 touchdown passes. On the receiving end of 10 of Allgood's passes was Zach Edwards who rang up 122 yards and a game-high five touchdowns. Jeff Hughley contributed nine receptions for 174 yards and three scores.

The Tulsa defense was equally impressive, forcing four Thunder turnovers and allowing more than seven points in just one quarter. In the final stanza the Talons held Mahoning Valley scoreless. Aaron's Defensive Player of the Game Pierre Thomas led the way, nabbing two interceptions for Tulsa.

Mahoning Valley Quarterback Blake Powers struggled; completing 16 of his 22 pass attempts for 163 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Powers would leave the game with a third quarter shoulder injury. Powers was replaced by Davon Vinson who failed to engineer any scoring drives while throwing and interception and fumbling in the end zone. The home team was led by De'Tario Frederick who caught nine passes for 81 yards and a touchdown-his first as a member of the Thunder.

The loss drops Mahoning Valley to 1-4 on the season the Talons improve to 4-1. The Thunder travels to Albany next Saturday night, May 2nd for the second of three season meetings with the Firebirds. Mahoning Valley's lone victory this season came against Albany in the season opener. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
