Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Wichita, Kansas - The Wichita Thunder's top forward line of Jason Duda, Travis Clayton, and Joe Blaznek combined for three goals and five assists to lead the Thunder to a 4-2 win over the Fort Worth Brahmas on Friday night at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, Kansas.
Duda opened the scoring 9:43 into the first period with his twelfth goal of the season off of assists from Clayton and Blaznek. Fort Worth would answer back and tie the game at one when center Cory Stillman netted his ninth goal of the year less than two minutes later.
The turning point in the game came in the final moments of the first period. First, Clayton put the Thunder on top 2-1 with a powerplay goal off of a rebound at the 18:10 mark of the period. Then, just 45 seconds after the Clayton goal, Wichita center Ryan Coghlan capitalized on a Fort Worth turnover for another Thunder goal. The two-goal outburst gave the Thunder a 3-1 lead at the conclusion of the first period.
The Brahmas would score the only goal of the second period of play. Forward Derek Seal registered his sixth goal of the season midway through the middle frame to pull the Brahmas to within one goal at 3-2.
Fort Worth would push for the tying goal in the third period, but the Thunder would lock down defensively. The Brahmas fired 10 shots on goal in the last twenty minutes of game, but Wichita goaltender Sebastien Laplante stopped all of them. Clayton then caped off the scoring in the game when he tallied an empty net goal with just twelve seconds remaining in regulation.
Laplante earned the win in net for the Thunder, turning away 31 of the 33 Fort Worth shots he faced. Rookie netminder Chris Davidson took the loss for the Brahmas, allowing three Wichita goals on the 28 shots he faced.
The defeat dropped the Brahmas record to 8-15-3 on the season. Fort Worth is now winless in their last eight consecutive games (0-7-1). The win for Wichita, their first in their last three games, improves the Thunder's record to 15-7-3 for the season.
Fort Worth will now be off for the Christmas holiday. The Brahmas will next take the ice on Tuesday, December 27 when they play at Tulsa. Tuesday night's game will be broadcast by the Brahmas on KHFX Fox Sports 1460 AM with the pregame show beginning at 6:50 p.m.
