Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Beach Thunder will provide Mainland High School football fans who can't travel to Friday's Class 5A state semifinal contest at Lakeland the opportunity to listen to the Bucs' bid for a second state championship game appearance in four years.

A web cast of Friday's game will be made available on the World Indoor Football League team's web sites at www.dbthunder.net beginning at 7:15 p.m.

When it was learned that no local broadcast of the game would be available, the Thunder offered its services to support one of the Daytona Beach area's top high school football programs.

"A game of this magnitude deserves to be covered,'' said WIFL Director of Communications Dan Ryan, who is based out of the Thunder's office. "We're pleased to have the opportunity to work with Coach John Maronto's outstanding Mainland program and will promise a first-class effort Friday night."

Both Mainland and Lakeland enter the contest undefeated at 13-0. The host Dreadnaughts are ranked as high as third in the national polls and featured a host of Division I signees. This game will be a rematch of the 2004 semifinals, won by Lakeland 28-7.

After a down year in 2005, the Bucs posted their first undefeated season in over 50 years with a defense that registered six shutouts and never gave up more than 19 points. The Thunder and the WIFL will be using EZ Stream as its official internet streaming provider. EZ Stream is also an official partner of the Florida High School Activities Association and will also offer the game on www.floridacast.com

"Floridacast.com was looking for someone to work the game, so we're filling a need with them as well as the Daytona Beach area," Ryan said.

Those without internet access can get scoring updates by listening to Friday's Embry-Riddle basketball broadcast on WELE (1380), whose play-by-play man, John Phillips, will update the Mainland score in addition to working his own game.

The Thunder kicks off its second season February 11, 2007 against the Augusta Spartans in the Ocean Center.
