Daytona Beach Thunder News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Pre-game activities at all seven home games during the Daytona Beach Thunder's inaugural 2006 season will honor local high school football players, coaches and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Daytona Beach area community.
"We're committed to the community and becoming a part of the fabric of the Daytona Beach area,'' said Thunder owner/CEO Zack McDonald. "Taking a moment to recognize the efforts of our residents is the least we can do to express our appreciation."
At each coin toss, local high school and college players will join the Thunder as honorary game captains and will be joined by an area coach who will serve as an honorary coach. Both the players and coach will be invited to participate in the Thunder's gameday activities on and off the field.
As the teams line up for kickoff, a game ball presenter will be escorted on the field to deliver the ball to the head official. This presenter will be recognized by the public address announcer for his/her contributions and commitment to the area.
"We're going to put a special emphasis on educators and community volunteers for this honor," McDonald said.
To nominate someone as a honorary player, coach, or game ball presenter, contact Thunder assistant general manager Jeremiah Johnson at (386) 788-2385, communications director Dan Ryan at (386) 427-1588 or e-mail honors@dbthunder.net
