Lincoln Thunder News Release
Lincoln, NE. The ABA Lincoln Thunderprofessional basketball team announced its head coach, open tryouts, first exibition game and unveiled its team logo in a major press conference as it gears up for the season opener in November.
According to Michael Jefferson, Thunder CEO, "Basketball runs deep in Dan Archie's family. Afterall, his daughter Jasmine Archie, is a senior on the Omaha South girls basketball team. Lat year, she led the state in assists. His son, Daniel Archie Jr is a point guard at Minnesota West Community College. As for himself, Archie is the newest member of the Lincoln Thunder team."
The team announced that Archie will be the head coach for the Thunder at the press conference held Wednesday at the Pershing Center, the home site of 18 regular season games. In addition, the team unveiled its logo and can now be seen by visiting the website, www.lincolnthunder.net.
Archie, 39, started his basketball career when he played at Omaha Central from 1981-84 where he also led the team in assists. From there, he went on to play for the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 1986-90, gaining Academic All American honors as a senior. In 1992, he began his coaching career at Central High School until 1998 when he moved to Omaha South as Head Coach until 2003. "It has always been a dream of mine to coach at the next level," Archie said. "Personally, I thought I would move on to the college level ranks. But when Michael approached me about coaching at the professional level, I thought it was a great opportunity for me and I couldn't turn that down." Archie also coaches the Omaha Crusaders, a summer select team of 16-18 year olds.
The team is getting off to a running start and will be holding tryouts this Saturday, September 10th and Sunday, September 11th at Pershing Center. Tryouts are open to anyone seeking to play professional basketball in the city of Lincoln. The tryout fee will be $150. Camp is scheduled to begin at 9am and last until 3pm both days. On Sunday, the doors will be open to the general public at 1pm. This will be a great opportunity for the community to get a sneak peak at Lincoln's newest professional team and become familiar with coaches, staff and potential players.
In addition to competing in this weekends tryout, players who make a roster spot will play in an exhibition game on Friday, September 2rd at 705pm. Admission to the game will be $10 with proceeds benefitting the American Red Cross and the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief. The Thunder are currently in negotiations to find an opponent for the game.
Season ticket holders who already purchased tickets through the Lincoln Generals are also invited to Pershing to claim their seat for the upcoming season. For any questions regarding tryouts or tickets, call the Thunder office at 477 5050 or visit their website at www.lincolnthunder.net or visit www.abalive.com.
