Thunder Earn First Win of the Season

Fort Worth, Texas --- The McAllen Thunder defeatedthe Fort Worth Cats 5-1 on Sunday evening at La Grave Field in Fort Worth, TX. Starter Brian Murphy (1-0) picked up the win for the Thunder afterpitching five innings and only allowing one run on six hits. Murphy also walkedtwo batters and struck out five.

James Giulietti (0-1) suffered the loss for the Cats. The southpaw wentsix innings and gave up four runs on eight hits, one being a three-run homerunfrom McAllen shortstop Nathan Tomaszewski. Kurt Houck threw four shutoutinnings to earn the save. Houck only allowed two hits to the Cats and struckout three.

RJ Harris was a surprising struggle for the Cats. Harris had his debutin the leadoff spot and went 0-for-5 and had a hat trick of strikeouts. Despitehis performance, Harris is still batting .429 for the season.

McAllen's top hitter on the night was designated hitter Luis Blanco whofinished with three singles and an RBI. Blanco's hands along with team chemistry and a focus on getting ballsup the middle were the keys to the Thunder's success tonight, according toBlanco. The Thunder picked up their first win of the season and have a recordof 1-4. The Cats record falls to 3-2 on the year. The Thunder and Cats face offagain for the second game of their four game series tomorrow night at 7:05 atLa Grave Field.
