Daytona Beach Thunder News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - As attention turns towards the slightly more popular 11-man, outdoor version of football, the Daytona Beach Thunder of the Atlantic Indoor Football League will keep a high profile during the 2005 fall football season in the Daytona Beach area.
Head Coach/General Manager Ervin Bryson will serve as a color commentator for broadcasts of Mainland High School football games on WELE (1380 AM and on the internet at http://www.wele1380.com). Mainland is one of the Daytona Beach area's stalwart programs, winning the 2003 state 5A championship and falling one game short of a second consecutive title game last fall.
"I'm excited about this opportunity,'' Bryson said. "Mainland's an exciting team to cover. This whole area is a great football community. Some of these players will be playing for us in the future."
Thunder wide receiver Joe Giddens played his high school ball at Mainland, even though he is now an assistant coach at district rival Spruce Creek.
The rest of the Thunder staff and management plans on spending their Friday nights and Saturday afternoons at the area's football to both promote their inaugural season and support the area teams.
"We love football,'' said Thunder CEO Zack McDonald. "Now that we own a team, we have an additional appreciation for what goes into putting a football team on the field."
The Daytona Beach Thunder takes to the field for its inaugural season in the Atlantic Indoor Football League beginning in the spring of 2006. Locally owned and operated by Zack McDonald, Kevin McDonald and Jay Burton, the Thunder is committed to providing first-class, family-oriented sports entertainment while serving its community in a professional manner.
