Bloomington Thunder News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Bloomington Thunder could not hold on to an early lead as the Fargo Force came back to top the Thunder 3-2 in the third period. A two-goal night for Denis Smirnov (Penn State University) helped seal the win for Fargo. Bloomington falls to 3-5-0 on the season while the Force improve to 3-3-1.

The Thunder fan base helped the team raise almost $6,000 for the Susan G. Komen foundation at the game thanks to a post-game jersey auction. The fans contributed to the game donating to breast cancer awareness in the first jersey auction of the season.

Sean Harrison (Union College) opened the scoring in the second period with just under seven minutes to play in the second period. His second of the season was a low angle shot that beat Ryan Wischow (St. Lawrence University). Later in the period, Logan Lambdin scored the second goal of the game. A stick lift separated the defender from the puck and the second year forward walked into the slot for a shot. It was his third of the year and made the game 2-0 on an unassisted play. Lambdin had two goals on the weekend and took the team lead in goals scored this season.

The third period began with a turnover turned goal for Smirnov just three minutes in. Then the Force took advantage of a power play and Zach Yon (University of North Dakota) tipped a shot in to tie the game at 8:54. Smirnov sealed the game for the Force with a goal at 15:20 on a 2-on-1 break.

The opening period held scoreless on the board, however it was apparent the Thunder were back to themselves. It was a fast period with many chances and clean physical play to give Bloomington the early edge. Bloomington outshot the Force through the opening 20 minutes 9 to 3.

Defensively, the Thunder played well, limiting the Force to just 21 shots in the game. Logan Halladay (University of Minnesota), despite the loss made a huge save in the second period on a Riley Tufte (University of Minnesota-Duluth) penalty shot. It was one of 18 saves on the night. Wischow turned away 25 shots in the game and improved to 3-1-0 on the season.
