Thunder Announces 2011-12 Preseason Schedule

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, has announced a two-game preseason schedule for the 2011-12 season which opens up at Stockton Arena on Friday, Oct. 7 against the Bakersfield Condors at 7:30 p.m.
A countdown to launching of the 2011-12 season, the Thunder will face Bakersfield in a two-day, ¬Åhome and home ¬Â style of series, continuing a rivalry that orchestrated a tie between both teams for first place in the Pacific Division in 2010-11. Bakersfield won the tie-breaker to hoist the Division Title banner.
"The rivalry with Bakersfield is more than just a geographical rivalry," said Thunder president Dan Chapman. "We know it's an intense battle each and every time we play the Condors and we see these home and home pre-season games as a great opportunity to set the tone and prepare for the 2011-12 season."
Both teams conclude the preseason series the following night at Rabobank Arena on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The Thunder defeated Bakersfield in their only match up in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, 4-1, in the 2010 Conference Semifinal.

A two-time recipient of the ECHL ¬ÅAward of Excellence, ¬Â the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for the third straight year, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the sixth consecutive season in 2010-11.
