ECHL Represented by 26 Players, 2 Coaches in 2011 IIHF World Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. ‚¬" The ECHL is represented by 26 players and two coaches in the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships which begin tomorrow in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia.

Former ECHL player and coach Scott Gordon is the head coach of the United States team for the second consecutive season, while former ECHL coach Barry Smith is serving as an assistant coach for Team USA.

There is a former ECHL player on 13 of the 16 teams led by Latvia with four players. Germany, Norway and Slovakia each have three former ECHL players on their rosters.

Andrei Mezin of Belarus is making his eighth appearance in the World Championships while Herbert Vasilijevs of Latvia is playing in his seventh consecutive tournament.
