Threshers Offense Stays Hot to Extend Win Streak to Six

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers used another double-digit hit performance to take down the Lakeland Flying Tigers 6-3 on Tuesday night at Spectrum Field in game-two of a four-game set. The victory stretches the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate's winning streak to six games, matching the longest streak of 2018.

Lakeland (14-22) grabbed an early lead for a second consecutive game on an RBI triple from A.J. Simcox in the third, but the home team rallied in the bottom half of the frame to grab the lead with a four-spot.

Back-to-back hits from Daniel Brito and Simon Muzziotti started the inning, and Alec Bohm crushed an RBI double to center to push Brito across to knot the game at a run apiece. After an RBI groundout from Madison Stokes gave Clearwater (18-19) the 2-1 advantage, Nick Maton capped off the third with two-run blast to right to push the lead to 4-1.

Colton Eastman (1-1) settled for his final three innings on the night by not allowing another run to cross the plate in the middle stanzas. The six strong innings for the Fresno, Calif. native gives the Threshers 12 quality-starts on the season.

Lakeland saw starter Jesus Rodriguez (1-4) fight through 5.1 innings while allowing nine hits and four runs.

Keylan Killgore took over to start the seventh and allowed a run before the stretch, but the southpaw picked up three punch outs in his lone inning of relieve.

The Clearwater offense had another answer in the eighth, as Madison Stokes hit a towering two-run homer to left in the eighth to extend the lead to 6-2.

Zach Warren (SV, 2) worked the final two innings to pick up his second save in as many chances. The left-handed reliever ran into trouble in the ninth after allowing a run to score without the benefit of a hit, but struck out four batters in the final frame and stranded the bases loaded to complete the contest.

Clearwater's pitching racked up 12 strikeouts to push their Florida State League leading total to 373.

With the offensive outburst, the Threshers picked up their fifth-straight double-digit hit game. Clearwater has collected 11 extra-base hits through the first two games of the four-game set. Both Bohm and Matt Vierling pushed their hitting streaks to six games, while Nick Maton extended his to eight.

Clearwater goes for the series victory in game three of the four-game set on Wednesday morning at Spectrum Field. RHP Alejandro Requena (2-1 3.38) will get the start for the Threshers against Flying Tigers' RHP Dane Myers (1-4 7.09). First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. with coverage beginning at 10:15 a.m. on threshersbaseball.com.

Wednesday morning is Education Day at Spectrum Field. Admission is free for students, teachers and chaperones. Game three is also Silver Sharks Wednesday presented by Belcher Bingo.
