Clearwater Threshers News Release

The Clearwater Threshers rallied for two runs in the eighth inning on Thursday, but came up short in a 6-4 loss to the St. Lucie Mets.

Pete Lavin, Gabriel Lino, and Angelo Mora each collected two hits as the Threshers matched the Mets with 10 in the hit column. Lavin also picked up his league-leading 13th outfield assist, gunning down a runner at third in the sixth inning.

Clearwater (9-35) fell behind 1-0 in the first, after Dilson Herrera led off with a double and scored following a pair of ground outs.

Art Charles responded by opening the second with a double of his own, and he would score on the play after an errant relay throw from second baseman Phillip Evans.

Gabriel Lino followed with a single to right, and with one out Brian Pointer's base knock put runners at the corners. Nick Ferdinand grounded out to third, allowing Lino to score and bump the Threshers to a 2-1 lead.

The Mets (28-19) tied it in the third inning against starter Colin Kleven. With two outs, Brandon Nimmo hit his third homer of the year to knot the game up at two.

Nimmo would also get the rally going for St. Lucie in the sixth. The Mets pelted Kleven with five singles in the frame before Miguel Nunez came on in relief.

Kleven (1-6) would be charged with five runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out five in his 5.2 innings.

A T.J. Rivera RBI double off Nunez in the seventh gave the Mets a 6-2 advantage.

Clearwater edged closer in the eighth, but fell short of completing the comeback. Lavin grounded a single through the right side, and one out later Lino lifted an RBI double to left. Logan Moore followed with an opposite-field single to left, making it a 6-4 ballgame.

The Threshers and Mets wrap up the four-game series on Friday, with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.
