Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release
[WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.] â The Winston-Salem Polar Twins pulled off a three-way deal today that sent Chester Gallant to Asheville, Jason Bone to Jacksonville, and added three to the Twins roster. The trade was announced today by Polar Twins Head Coach Bryan Wells. In addition, Wells also announced the signing of former Greensboro General Shaun Peet, who will dress for Friday's game against the Fayetteville FireAntz.
Headed to the Asheville Aces is Chester Gallant, who has played in all but one game this season for the Polar Twins. The 6'1", 188-pound right winger was second in goals scored for the Polar Twins with 13 on the season. He was also fourth in points with 21 (13G, 8A) and lead the team in game-winning goals with three. In return, the Polar Twins receive defenseman Liam McCarthy who was traded to Asheville from Jacksonville back on January 4th. The 6'3", 205-pound defenseman from Belmont, Massachusetts tallied two assists and 27 penalty minutes in 18 games with the Barracudas.
Joining the Jacksonville Barracudas is Jason Bone, the Polar Twins penalty minute leader. In 18 games this season for Winston-Salem, Bone amassed 150 penalty minutes and added two goals and an assist. The 6-foot, 210-pound right wing will add toughness to the Barracudas lineup, as he is not afraid to drop the gloves.
In exchange for Bone, Winston-Salem receives Jamie Miller and Billy Rochefort from Jacksonville. Miller averaged a point per game, notching 12 points (2G, 9A) in 12 games for the Barracudas. Prior to playing in Jacksonville, the 6'1", 200-pound forward from Regina, Saskatchewan also spent four games with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League. Rochefort contributed 10 points (1G, 9A) in 32 games this season for Jacksonville. The 6'3", 218-pound defenseman from Stratford, Ontario spent last season with the Adirondack IceHawks of the United Hockey League, playing in 72 games, including 44 under Coach Wells.
Also involved in the trade were Chris Ferguson and Peter Cermak. Ferguson will be added to the Jacksonville lineup after playing 29 games for Asheville this season. In that span, the 6-foot, 195-pound center had 20 points (10G, 10A) and 150 penalty minutes. Cermak, who began the season with Asheville, was traded to Winston-Salem as part of the deal for Bone but was subsequently placed on waivers and picked up immediately by Asheville. In 31 games this season with both the Aces and Barracudas, the 6'1", 185-pound left winger tallied 27 points (13G, 14A). Cermak played 13 games in Winston-Salem last season as part of the T-birds.
In addition to the players involved in the trade, Winston-Salem has also signed veteran defenseman and former Greensboro General Shaun Peet. The 6'2", 200-pound Peet spent the past two seasons with the New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League, playing in 94 games over those two seasons. In 2001-02, Peet played in 50 games for the Generals with seven points in that span.
Friday the Fayetteville FireAntz return to LJVM Annex for a rematch of Monday's contest beginning at 7:30 p.m. Less than 400 tickets remain for this contest. Anyone bringing a canned food item to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank will receive $2 off the regular ticket price. Already have a ticket?
