Three Timbers Named to First Division Team of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. - United Soccer League announced today that Portland Timbers forward George Josten, goalkeeper Steve Cronin and defender Scot Thompson were selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 8.

All three Portland players earned their first Team of the Week selections this season following the team's 2-0 victory against the Vancouver Whitecaps over the weekend.

Josten, 23, scored his first goal of the season to seal the Timbers' victory over the over the Whitecaps and set up the play that led to the go-ahead goal early in the match. A native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Josten has recorded a goal and an assist in six matches with the Timbers this season.

Cronin, 26, recorded six saves against the Whitecaps to earn his second shutout of the season. Cronin and the Timbers backline rank second in the league in fewest goals allowed, having conceded only four goals through the first month of the season.

Thompson, 28, made his sixth start of the year in the Timbers' win on Saturday and aided in the team's defensive efforts that held Vancouver to just three shots in the second half.
