San Diego Sockers News Release
The Professional Arena Soccer League announced their all-league selections for the 2013-14 regular season on Wednesday, with three-time MVP Kraig Chiles earning a spot on the league's First Team squad. No Sockers were named to the Second Team, while defender Evan McNeley and goalkeeper Chris Toth earned nods on the league's Honorable Mention third team.
Chiles, 29, has been on the PASL First Team for the past four seasons after earning a Second Team honor in his rookie year of 2009-10. Rebounding from preseason injuries, Chiles exploded down the stretch to post his third consecutive 60-point season, a PASL record. With 38 goals and 22 assists, Chiles set a personal best for helpers while finishing fourth in the league in points, three behind Chicago's Efrain Martinez. Along the way, the PASL's career points and goals leader scored his 200th career goal in the league.
McNeley, 30, is in his first year with the Sockers after starring in the MISL with Stockton, Monterrey and Milwaukee. In thirteen games, McNeley totaled seven goals and eight assists (15 points) while finishing second on the team with seventeen blocked shots. Despite suffering a midseason toe injury on a hard tackle, McNeley recorded back-to-back four point games and earned his way onto both the team's penalty killing and power play units.
Toth, 24, excelled in his first season as the full-time starting keeper in San Diego, starting fifteen games and finishing with a 12-3 record and 4.89 goals against average. His .735 save percentage ranked third best among qualifying keepers in the PASL (eight starts or more), while his GAA and 205 saves both ranked fourth. Only Detroit's Joe Kapinos (10-4, 7.02 GAA) had more saves with a winning record than Toth.
