Three Silver Knights Given League Honors
Syracuse, NY. - The Major Indoor Soccer League honored the top performers from a highly successful 2011-12 regular season today, naming the All-MISL First and Second Teams as well as the All-Rookie Team. Syracuse Silver Knights defender Nelson Santana was named to the All-MISL First Team, and goalkeeper Eric Reed and forward Slavisa Ubiparipovic were named to the All-Rookie Team.
Santana was league's leading defensive scorer in 2011-12 with 16 goals and 14 assists. He played in all 24 games this season and scored a hat trick in the February 12th game in Rochester against the Lancers.
Ubiparipovic and Reed both played indoors for the first time with the Knights. A veteran keeper in the outdoor game, Reed started in goal indoors for much of the season before being sidelined with an injury. He logged nearly 950 minutes in the net, stopping 245 shots for a save percentage of 67.
On the other side of the field, Ubiparipovic created headaches for goalkeepers. His 22 goals and 14 assists made him the team's leading scorer and the seventh-leading scorer league-wide. His best game was on November 11th at the Norfolk SharX, scoring a three-point goal, three two-point goals, and an assist. He scored a second hat trick just 12 days later in front of the home fans against the Lancers.
Each of the MISL clubs is represented in the teams, with the Baltimore Blast leading the way with five selections, including three members of the All-MISL First Team. The Milwaukee Wave and Missouri Comets accounted for five of the six All-MISL Second Team slots, while five teams are represented on the All-Rookie Team.
The All-MISL and All-Rookie teams are selected through a vote by MISL team management and select media members.
Baltimore and Milwaukee will face off in the best-of-three 2012 MISL Championship Series starting this Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore (7:35 p.m. ET, MISLLive.com), with the second leg set for 4:10 p.m. ET Sunday at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee (MISLLive.com). A deciding mini-game will be played immediately following Game 2 if needed.
