Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - With 2014 coming to a close, the Walla Walla Sweets are continuing to add players for the 2015 season of West Coast League baseball. Today the team announced the addition of three players from the University of Southern Illinois. Pitcher Michael Baird, infielder Connor Kopach, and outfielder Dyllin Mucha will take the field at Borleske in June.

Dyllin Mucha is a native of Centennial, Colorado, and a graduate of Cherry Creek High School. The 6-foot, 160-pound sophomore outfielder appeared in 47 games for the Salukis in spring 2014, hitting .265 with a .370 on-base percentage. In high school, Mucha was named All-Centennial first team and All-State first team.

"Dyllin runs well, which will be a benefit as we continue to add speed and defense to a very talented outfield," said Sweets manager Frank Mutz. "According to his coaches at Southern Illinois, Dyllin has a good understanding of situational hitting which will benefit the Sweets this summer. His skills combined with his two years of Division I baseball experience will be a solid addition to our clubhouse."

Connor Kopach is a 6-foot, 170-pound sophomore infielder for Southern Illinois. A native of Westmont, Illinois, Conner is a 2013 graduate of Downers Grove North. Last season, Kopach hit .222 with five doubles and a .302 on-base percentage. In high school, Kopach was a two-time All-Conference selection, and was an All-State honorable mention as a senior.

"Connor is considered one of the top athletes on the Southern Illinois roster, and is considered the fastest player in the Salukis lineup," added Mutz. "Anytime you can add speed to a roster along with great defense up the middle, it's a great thing. I'm excited to have Connor join the 2015 roster knowing he will give the middle of our defense a chance to be very athletic."

Michael Baird is a 6-foot 4-inch, 190-pound freshman right-handed pitcher. A native of Parker, Colorado, Baird is a 2014 graduate of Legend High School. As a senior in high school, Baird was named second team All-Continental League. As a junior he recorded a record of 4-1 and helped lead his team to a district championship.

"Michael will be competing for a starting role for the Salukis this spring. He has a great arm, and will fit in well with the rest of our talented and deep pitching staff," said Mutz. "Michael's versatility will allow us to plug him in to various roles throughout the season, but I plan to use him primarily in a starting role or in long relief."

Opening Day of the 2015 West Coast League season is slated for June 5, 2015. Season tickets, partial season ticket packages, Family and Friends Passes, and 12-game vouchers are on sale now. More information about tickets is available at the Sweets Shoppe in downtown Walla Walla, online at wallawallasweets.com, or by calling 509.522.BALL.
