
Three-Run Eighth Propels Lookouts Past Generals

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (APRIL 6, 2014) - Despite an impressive Double-A debut for 19-year-old pitching prospect Victor Sanchez (0-0), the Jackson Generals (2-2) suffered a 5-3 loss at Chattanooga (2-2) Sunday in the fourth game of their season opening series at AT&T Field.
Sanchez went five innings and allowed two runs and four hits while recording six strikeouts. The Venezuelan-born right-hander threw a total of 73 pitches (49 for strikes).
Sanchez went 6-6 in 20 starts for Low-A Clinton last season, including a no-hitter on July 17, against Lansing.
Mariners' relief pitcher Stephen Pryor (0-1), currently on a rehab assignment from offseason shoulder surgery was saddled with a blown save in the eighth inning.
Pryor allowed three runs off of two hits, including a triple by Jeremy Hazelbaker that scored Noel Cuevas to tie the game at 3-3. On the following at-bat, Daniel Mayora connected on a 2-run home run that scored Hazelbaker.
Hector Nelo earned his first win of the season after entering the game in the eighth inning. Nelo pitched a scoreless inning before Pedro Baiz recorded his first save of the season in the ninth.
The Generals offense struck early in Sunday's loss. Jabari Blash scored on a two-out fielder's choice throwing error by second baseman Darnell Sweeney in the second inning.
Jamal Austin scored Nate Melendres on an RBI double in the third. Austin, who leads Jackson with a .444 batting average, has hit safely in each of the Generals' first four games and is batting .444.
Melendres scored once again in the fifth after a sacrifice fly by Kevin Rivers to give Jackson a 3-2 lead, prior to the eighth-inning Chattanooga rally.

The final game of the series is Monday at 6:15 p.m. CT at AT&T Field in Chattanooga. RHP Jordan Pries makes his season debut against Chattanooga right-hander Garrett Gould. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and TuneIn Radio.
The Generals will host their annual FanFest at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8th, which will prelude the home opener on Thursday, April 9th at 7:05 p.m. against the Mississippi Braves (ATL).
This will be the 17th season of Double-A Professional Baseball in Jackson.
