Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Tuesday, July 2, 2013) A late three-run homer by Johnny Adams (Boston College) proved to be the difference as the Nashua Silver Knights defeated the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 3-2.
Wachusett starting pitcher Michael Marshall (Bryant) pitched a brilliant game, going 7.2 innings. He was in complete command of all of his pitches, holding Nashua scoreless through 7.2 innings.
The Silver Knights finally broke Marshall in the top of the eighth. With two outs and a full count, Adams took a pitch over the left-center field wall to give the Knights a 3-2 lead, one they would hold onto for the victory.
"Mike pitched great tonight," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations for Wachusett. "It's unfortunate we couldn't get enough run support for him."
The Dirt Dawgs scored their two runs in the second, when catcher Todd Ezold (UMass Boston) hit a two-run single to give the Dawgs the 2-0 lead. Ezold was the top hitter for the Dirt Dawgs, with two hits to go along with his two RBIs.
Marshall took the loss on evening, moving to 1-3.
For the Silver Knights, Connor Root (Bentley) earned the victory, his first win of the season.
The Dirt Dawgs return to action tomorrow as the Torrington Titans visit Doyle Field. First Pitch is slated is for 6:35 PM.
