Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (9-6) struck for one run in top of the eighth to break the tie and hold on for the 2-1 victory against the Torrington Titans (8-9) on Tuesday night at The Ballpark.

The Tide bats started the contest off with a bang in the first inning, as Graham McIntire (Concord, NH/Marist) led off with a stand up double to the alley in left center. Fran Whitten (Westborough, MA/University of Maine) nearly missed a homerun, hitting the outfield fence in right and driving home McIntire from third.

Torrington threatened in the fourth inning with a runner at first and third with one out, but the Tide were able to turn a double-play to get out of the inning.

The score would stand until the sixth inning when Jim Topps (Chicago, IL/University of Buffalo) scored on a double by Michael Odenwaelder (Goshen, CT/UMass Amherst) to even the score at 1-1. Odenwaelder was close to scoring the go-ahead run with a single to left field by Brian Fay (Southbury, CT/Wheaton), but a sharp throw by Matt Pagano (Cranston, RI/Marist) was right on the mark to home to hold the tie in place.

Two walks and a hit by pitch would load the bases in the bottom of the eighth to set up the go-ahead run, where Sam Canales (Saco, ME/Bowdoin) would get an infield single to third, plating in Pagano.

Both starting pitchers found their groove, as both gave up five hits and one earned run apiece. Ryan Otero (Coral Gables, FL/Miami) had five strikeouts in the no decision effort.

Louis Distasio (Westbrook, ME/University of Rhode Island) was credited with the win, tossing two-no hit innings of relief.

The Raging Tide will return to The Ballpark tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Brockton Rox. First game scheduled for 5pm and the second will be at 7pm.
