Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo are back on the pitch tonight in Harrison, New Jersey as they take on the New York Red Bulls at 7 p.m. from Red Bull Arena. Houston comes into the match sitting 10th in the Western Conference, 10 points out of the final playoff spot with nine games left on the schedule.

To make the leap into the top six and secure a second consecutive trip to the postseason, the Dynamo need to start stringing wins together, and tonight would be a great time to start. Houston has never beaten the Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena, with an 0-7-1 mark since the building opened.

Tonight's match was originally scheduled for April, but was moved to later in the year in order to accommodate the Red Bulls' participation in CONCACAF Champions League competition early in the year.

GAME INFORMATION:

MATCHUP: Houston Dynamo (7-11-7; 28 pts.) at New York Red Bulls (16-6-4; 52 pts.)

TIME: 7:00 p.m. CDT

TV: KUBE Ch. 57(Local Channel Guide)

RADIO: CBS Sports Radio 650 AM (English); Univision Radio 1010 AM (Spanish)

HERE ARE THREE KEY POINTS YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW AS YOU PREPARE FOR TONIGHT'S GAME:

1. TIME TO MAKE A MOVE - The Dynamo come into tonight 10 points out of the playoffs with nine games remaining. While a surge into the top six is very do-able, time is beginning to run short. Last year, the Dynamo were the fourth seed in the Western Conference with 50 points, and the sixth-place team ended the regular season with 46 points. The Dynamo would need 18 more points (equivalent to six wins) to match that 46-point total, so time is of the essence.

2. TWO-GAME ROAD TRIP - After tonight's match, the Dynamo fly directly to North Texas to prepare for a contest on Saturday night at FC Dallas. Not only will that be another crucial opportunity to pick up points in the push for the playoffs, it's also the third and final round of the 2018 Texas Derby. After the Dynamo and Dallas drew each of the first two meetings, Saturday then becomes a winner-take-all affair with the winner capturing (or retaining) El Capitán, the Texas Revolutionary War-era cannon that goes to the series champion.

3. WE'VE GOT OUR OWN RONALDO! - Ronaldo has become a big name in soccer over the last 20 years. First it was the Brazilian striker by the name, whose unmatched combo of power and grace earned him the nickname "Il Fenómeno" (The Phenomenon) and three World Player of the Year awards. Then came Ronaldinho, the magical Brazilian midfielder who was named World Player of the Year twice. Now Cristiano Ronaldo has put his stamp on the name, winning the 2016 European Championship, five UEFA Champions League titles and five World Player of the Year awards. The Dynamo have their own Ronaldo - Ronaldo Peña. Named after the original Ronaldo, the 21-year-old Venezuelan hasn't been named World Player of the Year - yet - but he made a quick impact on his club when he scored his first MLS goal last week against Dallas to rescue a vital point for the Dynamo.
