Three Pilots Sign with Sweets

Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Sweets 2015 roster is taking shape nicely as the team prepares for the upcoming season of West Coast League baseball. The team announced today the signing of three University of Portland players, including returning pitcher Alex Fisher. Fisher will be joined by Pilot teammates Jason Rosen and Dan Whittaker

Fisher, a 6-foot 2-inch, 200-pound sophomore, is a right-handed pitcher who played for the Sweets in 2014. Last season, Alex was 1-1 in 13 games for the Sweets, notching 17 strikeouts. Fisher appeared in 9 games during his freshman season at Portland striking out 11 in 19 innings of work.

"It is always special when a player returns for multiple seasons," said Sweets manager Frank Mutz. "I look forward to having Alex back with the team this summer, and look forward to utilizing his leadership skills and experience in the West Coast League to help our younger players adjust to this level of competition."

Jason Rosen, is a 6-foot, 180-pound, sophomore outfielder. A resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, Rosen is a 2013 graduate of Punahou High School. Rosen saw limited time for the Pilots last season. As a junior at Punahou, Rosen hit .409 with 10 stolen bases and 16 RBI, and earned honorable mention all-state honors.

"Jason has advanced small ball skills and will be counted on to drag, push bunt, and steal bases this summer," added Mutz. "I believe putting pressure on a defense creates offensive output and I think Jason can play a role in that this summer."

Dan Whittaker, is a native of Spokane, Washington, and a graduate of North Central High School. The 6-foot 4-inch, 195-pound sophomore infielder was a four year letter winner in high school. As a junior he was named to the All-Greater Spokane League first team. Whitaker was ranked as the number 13 prospect in the state of Washington by Baseball Northwest in 2013 before heading to Portland.

"Dan will be valuable to the Sweets defense this year with his ability to play short, second, or third," continued Mutz. "I also expect that Dan will be a boost to our running game by bringing speed to the lineup."

The Sweets will open the 2015 season of WCL baseball on June 5, 2015. Season tickets, Friends and Family Passes, and 12-game vouchers are on sale now.
