Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - The NHL Central Scouting Service released its Preliminary Players to Watch Listahead of the 2023 NHL Draft. Nick Lardis received a "B" rating, which indicates a 2nd-3rd round selection. Donovan McCoy and Konnor Smith both received a "C" rating, indicating potential 4th-7th round selections. The NHL Draft will take place from June 28-29, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Following up a rookie season in which he scored 18 times and added 19 assists, Nick Lardis currently has four goals and three assists on the season for seven points in ten games. The Oakville, Ontario native stands at 5'10" tall and weighs 154 lbs. Lardis was originally selected by the Petes sixth overall in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. He continues to impress on and off the ice this year, starting with his standout performances at Training Camp.
Donovan McCoy was originally selected 15th overall by the Petes in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the Quinte Red Devils. The Belleville, Ontario native is 6'1" tall and weighs 201 lbs. McCoy has 19 assists through 71 career games as a Pete.
Known for his physical play, Konnor Smith stands at 6'6" tall, 209 lbs. Originally from Windsor, Ontario Smith was selected by the Petes from the Jr. Spitfires in the ninth round, 175th overall in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. Smith has four goals and nine assists through 52 career games as a Pete.
Because McCoy and Smith were both born after September 15, they are considered "late birthdays" by the NHL and are eligible for the NHL Draft for the first time this season despite being born in 2004.
Fans can catch Lardis, McCoy, and Smith in action at the Petes next home game on Thursday, October 27 when the Soo Greyhounds come to town. Make sure to wear your costume, as a costume contest will take place at the game. You can get your tickets.
