Joliet JackHammers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB, Canada - The Joliet JackHammers (23-22) slammed three home runs and won a season high fourth straight game, downing the Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-22) 5-2 Thursday night at Canwest Park. Jonathan Wyatt collected three hits, including a solo home run, and drove home two in the victory.
The JackHammers started the scoring in the second against Zach Baldwin (1-1) as Jon Nelson smacked his 13th home run of the season, a blast over the wall in right center. Joliet tacked on three more runs courtesy of the long ball. Chris Colton launched his second home run this season, a two run shot in the fourth, to make it 3-1. Wyatt led off the fifth with his fourth homer to put the JackHammers out in front 4-1.
Todd Privett (4-3) did the rest, surrendering only two runs in six solid innings of work. The lefty struck out six and walked one to earn the victory.
The Goldeyes got to Privett in the second, tying the game on a Luis Alen two out single at one apiece. Winnipeg picked up their final run of the night, putting runners at first and third with one out as Wes Long led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Aharon Eggleston walked, Juan Diaz hit into a 6-4-3 double play to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Wyatt added an insurance run in the ninth off Bobby Korecky. Roberto Mena coaxed a one out walk and Wyatt plugged the left centerfield gap with a double for the 5-2 final.
Griffin Bailey picked up his third save in as many games, tossing a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save overall.
Wyatt had a game high three hits and drove in a pair of runs while Colton collected a pair of runs batted in on the two run homer.
The JackHammers will send Bear Bay (3-3) to the hill tomorrow night opposite Stephen Flake (2-1). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. with a 6:50 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
