SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Nick Tanielu homered on a 3-0 pitch to break open the game early and the JetHawks cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Josh James (2-1) tossed five shutout innings and struck out six to earn the win. He struck out the side in the fourth and retired seven of the final eight batters he faced. Eric Peterson followed with 2.1 innings of solid relief work, allowing the lone run of the game to Inland Empire. Angel Heredia closed out the final 1.1 innings and struck out three.
The JetHawks jumped in front right away when Bobby Boyd created a run all on his own in the first inning. He singled on a grounder up the middle to open the game, then stole second and third. On the steal of third, catcher Jose Briceno threw the ball into left field, which allowed Boyd to score.
Lancaster added two more in the second and another pair in the third inning. Bryan Muniz delivered a two-run single and Tanielu launched a deep home run to left when Manager Ramon Vazquez gave him the green light on the 3-0 pitch. It was Tanielu's team-leading third long ball this season. He is also tops on the club with 16 RBI.
Ramon Laureano had three hits for the JetHawks, all to the opposite field in right. The third helped produce the sixth run of the game for Lancaster. In the seventh, after Drew Ferguson led off with a walk, Laureano doubled down the line in right. He would later score on a wild pitch, his second run of the game. It was Laureano's first three-hit game this season.
The JetHawks and 66ers conclude their four-game series tomorrow night in San Bernardino. Trent Thornton (1-0) will start for Lancaster against Justin Anderson (0-3). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
