
Three First Period Goals Push Sundogs to 4-2 Win

Prescott Valley, AZ - Three first period goals for the Arizona Sundogs pushed them to a 4-2 win over the Denver Cutthroats, Saturday night at Tim's Toyota Center earning four points in their weekend series. Arizona continues to hold on to the seventh place playoff spot, just one point ahead of the Tulsa Oilers.
Three first period goals led the way for the Sundogs' victory over the Denver Cutthroats. Quiet after eight minutes into the period and Brandon Coccimiglio struck for the Sundogs while on the power play after Robin Soudek was issued two minutes for hooking. Moments later Arizona's Matt McCready was sent off for a five minute fighting major after Phil Tesoriero cross checked Sebastian Geoffrion to the back and McCready went in, standing up for his line mate. Two more goals were scored within two minutes of each other first when Mark Isherwood found the back of the net 16:56 into the period from Coccimiglio and Jordan Clendenning. Arizona picked up their third goal and their second power play goal when Kevin Baker scored with assists from Shawn Limpright and Bryan Cameron.
Denver fought to cut their deficit in half tallying two goals of their own in the second period but Arizona tallied their fourth allowing them the two goal lead. The Cutthroat's Jason Cohen put Denver on the board 3:31 into the second period from Garett Bembridge and Cam Reid. At 11:20 Kevin Baker was called for hooking sending the Cutthroats on the man-advantage which they took advantage of, collecting their second goal. TJ Fox posted the goal from Vincent Arseneau and Cohen. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the period Cameron registered Arizona's fourth goal.
Andrew Engelage made an impressive 39 saves. Denver outshot Arizona 41-24. The Sundogs were 2-4 on the power play and the Cutthroats were 1-7. Arizona will close out their regular season with three games against the Wichita Thunder, next week Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
