Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks swept their weekend series against the Quad City Mallards with a 3-1 victory on Sunday night for their third 'W' in three nights.

Goaltender Erno Suomalainen captured his fifth win of the season on Sunday night, allowing only one goal in twenty-one attempts by Quad City.

The Mallards were first on the board with a goal from Matt Duffy 5:35 into the game to make the Mavs trail for the first time in the back-to-back 3 game weekend. Then Andrew Courtney was there just before the half point of the period to even up the score for Missouri with the assist of Anders Franzon and Eric Castonguay.

Courtney would later edge the Mallards 2-1 in the second period with his second goal of the night with a redirect assisted by Eric Castonguay and Sebastien Thinel. Castonguay tallied his 31st goal of the season on the Mavericks power play at 10:32 of the second frame aided by Colt King.

Missouri held their 3-1 lead through the remainder of the game with a strong defensive effort in front of Erno Suomalainen. Try as they might, the Mavs could not manage to get Andrew Courtney the hat trick goal on Sunday night, but were happy to leave the ice with another 2 points to add to a very important 6 point weekend.

The Mavericks play their next game at home vs the St. Charles Chill on Tuesday, March 25th at 7:05pm. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, March 2nd, but was rescheduled due to the weather. Tickets are available in person at the Box Office, and online at TicketMaster.com.
