Mallards Suffer Third Straight Loss to Mavs

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (March 23, 2014) - Andrew Courtney scored twice and Eric Castonguay provided a goal and two assists as the host Missouri Mavericks defeated the Quad City Mallards 3-1 Sunday. The loss was the fifth place Mallards' (29-23-10, 68 points) third to Missouri in 48 hours while the win was the league-leading Mavericks' (42-17-2, 86 points) tenth in 11 games.

The Mavericks scored twice in the second period to take control. Courtney broke a 1-1 deadlock by tipping in his second goal at 6:56 of the second. At 10:32, the Mavericks were on the power play when Eric Castonguay swung around the Mallard net to sweep a low shot home.

The Mallards had opened the scoring when Matt Duffy's shot from the left point caromed in off Maverick defenseman Dave Pszenyczny at 5:35 of the first period but Courtney would pounce on a rebound at 10:32 of the first to even the score with first of three unanswered Missouri goals.

The Mallards next play Wednesday night on the road against Allen Americans. The Mallards' next home game is their regular season finale next Sunday, March 30, at 4:05 p.m. against the Mavericks. Next Sunday is Fan Appreciation Day at the iWireless Center. Fans can bring their skates to next Sunday's game and skate with the Mallards after that tilt. In addition, all fans in attendance will receive a coupon good for a free bag of popcorn at iWireless Center concession stands.
