Three FC Edmonton Academy Players Selected to Canadian U-15 Squad

Canada Soccer has announced the players that will participate in this year's Canada Soccer U-15 Showcase, with three FC Edmonton Academy players being named to the Canadian Select squad. The six-match, round-robin showcase scheduled from 3-6 May in Montréal, Québec. The showcase features a Canadian select squad and the academy/reserve squads from Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Toronto FC, and Impact Montréal FC.

FC Edmonton Academy's Prince Amanda, Abraham Jones and Darlington Murasiranwa will suit up for the Canadian Select squad when the youth camp gets underway next month.

"We are always ecstatic whenever we can support our national youth team projects," FC Edmonton Academy technical director Jeff Paulus explained. "For Prince, Abraham and Darlington, it is a wonderful opportunity and certainly these young lads are worthy of their invite. Our goal in the Academy is to buld in the fantastic work being done within the youth clubs of Edmonton and hopefully continue to push these youngsters into our national teams."

Every squad will play each other once, with each squad comprising of 18-21 young players born in 2001. Each match will be 80 minutes long, with matches played on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Players in this age category are eligible for international youth competitions until 2017 for the U-17 level (born 2000 or later), until 2021 for the U-20 level, and until 2024 for the Olympic U-23 level.

Canada Soccer's Men's EXCEL Program channels the nation's exceptional players into the best soccer environments. The Canada Soccer Pathway works in collaboration with our provincial and territory partners as well as the professional clubs and academies. For Canada's elite players, the program emphasizes player development on the pathway to representing Canada's Men's National Team in international soccer.

FC Edmonton Academy began in January 2012 and now in its fifth year, continues to be a fully funded program by FC Edmonton owners Tom and Dave Fath. One of the goals of the Academy is to provide an opportunity for the elite player to focus solely on their individual growth within the playing philosophy of FC Edmonton.
