
Three Dolphins to Join Sharks

The Wilmington Sharks have added three new players for the 2019 season. Christian Coipel, Andrew Jones, and Paul Castillo from the Jacksonville University Dolphins in Florida. All three players are juniors on the Dolphins having previously spent time in Junior College.
Castillo spent his Junior College Days at Eastern Florida State College. During his second season with Eastern Florida State, he hit .310 with 24 RBIs and 19 extra base hits, including nine triples which broke the program's single season record. Prior to his arrival at Eastern Florida State, he was part of the District Championship team at Miami Coral Park High School.
Jones was teammates with Castillo at Eastern Florida State where he was 6-0 with a 3.22 ERA in eleven starts and fourteen appearances on the mound as a sophomore in 2018. He also struck out 54 opposing team hitters. He originally began his collegiate career at Florida Atlantic and posted a 2.53 ERA in nine relief appearances. He did not allow a single earned run during his senior year at Sarasota High School. As a junior, he kept his ERA under one and helped lead the team to an appearance in the Florida Class 8A State Championship game. He has so far recorded fourteen strikeouts in 2019 with the Dolphins.
Coipel hit .333 as a sophomore with Palm Beach State and was responsible for five home runs and three triples. Like Castillo, Coipel is also from Miami. He attended Florida Christian School in High School and had an historic senior year in leading the team to the 4A District Title. He hit .506 with six home runs, drove in 26 runs, and stole eleven bases earning himself a spot on the First Team All- State team.
