Walla Walla Sweets News Release
WALLA WALLA, Wash - The Walla Walla Sweets released its first set of players in March on Thursday morning. The club went down to Southern California to sign three players from UCLA. Walla Walla welcomes Logan Pouelsen, Nick Scheidler, and Jordan Myrow in 2016.
Logan Pouelsen, a 6-foot, 185-pound right-handed pitcher and infielder, will be at UCLA next season after he finishes the year with the Sweets. A native of Huntington Beach, CA, Pouelsen was named to the Underclassman First Team by Perfect Game in 2015. He was also ranked as the number 29 prospect in 2016 in California by Perfect Game. His junior year, he threw 10 and a third innings without giving up a run and striking out eight. During his sophomore year, he hit .280 with three home runs and 19 RBIs.
"Logan Pouelson is considered to be one of the top two way players in Southern California," Sweets' manager Frank Mutz said. "Although Logan is a UCLA commit he is a very mature player who throws hard (90-93) and can hit as well as play strong defense. His experience with Team USA and ahighly touted high school program, Huntington Beach HS, will only be a small adjustment to having success in the tough West Coast League. Logan is a true competitor and brings to the Sweets an arsenal of baseball talent."
Nick Scheidler, a 6-foot 2-inch, 170-pound left-handed pitcher, will join the Bruins after his senior season at La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad, CA. His junior season, he went 7-2 with a 1.25 ERA and recorded 63 strikeouts in 75 innings. Scheidler was ranked number 74 in the 2016 Perfect Game California Prospect Rankings. He was a three-year letter winner at La Costa Canyon.
"Nick Scheidler is a highly recruited and sought after high school LHP in Southern California," Mutz said. "Another UCLA commit will add stability to an already deep pitching staff. Nick is an extremely talented LHP who throws in the high 80's to low 90's. Not only does he throw hard, he has a plus change-up. I'm grateful UCLA head coach John Savage made this talented young player available for the Sweets."
Jordan Myrow, a 5-foot 10-inch, 185-pound outfielder, is currently in the midst of his freshman season with the Bruins. For Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, CA, he hit .270 his senior year with 24 runs and 20 RBIs in 29 games. Coming out of high school, he was ranked number 34 on Perfect Game's list of 2015 California high school prospects. He was a four-year letter winner at Notre Dame High School.
"Jordan Myrow is an incredible athlete," Mutz said. "He has power, speed and a very good throwing arm. Jordan will most likely play in CF or RF for us this summer. I believe Jordan will be a big part of our offensive output and will most likely hit in the 3,4 or 5 hole for us. I coached against Jordan back in high school and I finally get the chance to coach him, not against him. He will bring tremendous excitement to Borleske Stadium."
