
Thorns FC Announce Roster Ahead of 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC today announced their roster ahead of their opening match of the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup. Portland will open the Challenge Cup on the road against OL Reign on Friday, March 18 at Lumen Field; kickoff is at 7 p.m. (Pacific) on Paramount+.
Thorns FC's 2022 NWSL College Draft picks Natalie Beckman and Gabby Provenzano have been signed to one-year contracts with an option for an additional season. Beckman was selected in the fourth round (48th overall) and Provenzano was the club's second-round pick at No. 22 overall. A native of Aurora, Colo., Beckman concluded her collegiate career at the University of Denver with 21 goals and a program record 47 assists. In her final season with the Pioneers, Beckman was named Summit League Offensive Player of the Year as she tallied five goals and 18 assists. Provenzano finished her career at Rutgers University by helping lead the Scarlet Knights to the Women's College Cup in 2021. Across her five-year career, Provenzano appeared in more than 100 matches, while earning first team All-American, All-Region and All-Big Ten honors as well as Big Ten Defender of the Year recognition in 2021.
Following their opening match against OL Reign, Thorns FC travel to square off against San Diego Wave FC on Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m. (Pacific). Portland kicks off a stretch of three straight home games with its match against Angel City on Wednesday, March 30 (7 p.m. PT) followed by home contests against OL Reign on Saturday, April 2 (7 p.m. PT) and Sunday, April 17 (4 p.m. PT) against San Diego. Thorns FC conclude group play on Sunday, April 24 (6 p.m. PT), with their first road match against Angel City.
