PITTSBURGH (May 13, 2015) - Pittsburgh Riverhounds goalkeeper Ryan Thompson has been provisionally selected to represent Jamaica at this summer's Copa America international tournament.

Reggae Boyz head coach Winfried Schäfer handed the Kingston native his third national team cap in a friendly win over Cuba in March. Thompson has pushed himself into contention for Jamaica's starting role with his excellent early season form for the Hounds, highlighted by his double save following a Matt Fondy penalty kick in a 1-1 tie with Louisville City on April 19.

Thompson is scheduled to travel to Copa America host nation Chile to meet up with the Jamaican team following the Hounds' Keystone Derby clash with the Harrisburg City Islanders on May 30.

"It's always exciting to have someone representing their national team," said Riverhounds head coach Mark Steffens.

"We hope Ryan has a great experience and ends up establishing himself as Jamaica's No. 1."

Luis Suarez and Uruguay provide the opposition for Jamaica's opening game in Antofagasta on June 13. The Caribbean Cup holders face Lionel Messi and Argentina in Vina del Mar seven days later.

Jamaica will also be competing in the Concacaf Gold Cup in July with the team's opener taking place on July 8 against Costa Rica. Canada and El Salvador round out the group.
