Birmingham Barons News Release

Behind two home runs from Trayce Thompson, the Barons defeated the Montgomery Biscuits by a score of 7-1 in front of 4,334 fans at Regions Field.

The Barons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to the speed of Micah Johnson. Johnson would lead off the inning with a base hit to center and advanced to second on his Minor League-leading 84th steal of the season. David Herbek would follow with a base hit through the right side, scoring Johnson just ahead of the throw from right fielder Todd Glaesmann. Later in the inning, Brandon Jacobs would bring home Dan Black on an RBI base hit to left field.

After watching the Biscuits scored their lone run on a Shawn O'Malley RBI double off the base of the wall in left field, Trayce Thompson would get he run back with a towering solo homer off the video board in left field to give the Barons a 3-1 lead. The lead would grow to 5-1 in the fifth on a two-run double by Dan Black down the first base line. Black leads the Barons and ranks second in the league with 83 RBI this season.

Thompson's second home run, a two-run shot, came in the seventh against reliever Jeff Beliveau and gave the Barons a 7-1 lead. Thompson would finished 3-for-4 on the night with three runs scored and three RBI.

Starter Spencer Arroyo (9-7, 3.42) picked up his first win since July 28th, allowing a run on four hits over 6.0 solid innings.

The top four hitters in the Barons' lineup finished 9-for-16 on the night with seven runs scored and six RBI including a 3-for-4 day by David Herbek with two runs scored.

With the win, the Barons improved to 77-62 and 33-36 in the second half while Montgomery fell to 70-69 and 33-36 in the second half.

The Barons are just 7,568 fans away from drawing 400,000 fans during the inaugural season at Regions Field. If the mark is hit, it will be just the 4th time in franchise history that the team has drawn over 400,000 fans.

The Barons will look finish off the regular season with a series victory tomorrow afternoon as RHP Myles Jaye (NR) takes the hill in his Double-A debut against LHP Jim Patterson (0-4, 4.37). First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 PM CDT.
