Tulsa Drillers News Release
San Antonio pitcher and Padres top prospect Sean Thompson (2-0) continued to baffle Tulsa hitters, throwing seven scoreless innings, giving up only two hits while striking out six Drillers.
San Antonio broke a scoreless game open in the third inning when by Missions right fielder Drew Macias lead the inning off with a double. A walk by Juan Ciriaco put runners on first and second with pitcher Thompson batting. Macias would score on an errant throw by Morales, giving the Missions a 1-0 lead.
The Missions added one more run in the seventh to extend their lead to 2-0 when Chase
Headley scored on a fielder's choice by Macias.
The Drillers never recovered from the deficit, and had trouble manufacturing any offense against the Missions. San Antonio closer Neil Jamison picked up his third save of the season pitching a perfect ninth inning.
There were only six total hits in the game and the first time this season the Drillers were shut out.
Tulsa starter Franklin Morales (0-2) despite the loss threw his best game of the season. Franklin pitched 6 and one-third strong innings, giving up only one earned run, while striking out three Mission hitters.
Tulsa and San Antonio play the second game of a three game series Friday night at 7:05 in San Antonio.
NOTES: The loss ended a three game winning streak by the Drillers and extends a four game losing streak against San Antonio.
