Forest City Owls News Release
Forest City, NC- Drake Thomason put together his best outing in an Owls uniform on Monday night, throwing seven innings and allowing just one run in 4-1 victory over the Morehead City Marlins. The seven-inning outing was the righty's longest of the season. Thomason also turned in his second quality start of the year in picking up his second victory. He gave up just three hits and four walks, with four strikeouts.
The win was in doubt going into the 7th inning after Morehead City tied things up with a sacrifice fly in the 6th. The Owls took control though in the 7th after a leadoff single by Nick McQuail. Stephen Tarkenton dropped down a sacrifice bunt, moving McQuail to second. Kurt Seiders followed with a single to right field, putting runners on the corners with only one out. Then, Nate Chong delivered the winning run with a sacrifice fly of his own.
Forest City added two more runs in the 8th inning as insurance for the win. McQuail finished 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the 2nd inning, that put the Owls on top 1-0. He also scored two of the four runs. Nate Cudney pitched a scoreless 8th inning to earn a hold in his first appearance with the Owls. Jake Padgett tossed a scoreless 9th for his first save of the season.
