This Week in the IFL
June 4, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Welcome to the latest edition of the Indoor Football League's E-Newsletter! Can you feel the playoff fever? Billings, Maryland, and RiverCity have already clinched spots in the IFL post-season, and a few more could solidify their spot after this weekends slate of games
The ultimate goal for each team is to claim the illustrious United Bowl trophy, and have their names etched on the trophy for years to come. Teams like Sioux Falls, Rochester, and Odessa have the postseason and Championship experience in their previous leagues, but teams like Maryland and Fairbanks could make a lot of noise come playoff time. Week 13 will go a long way to show fans who are the front runners to win it all.
Games resume on June 5th with a Friday night double dip as Sioux City heads to Omaha and Maryland travels to Saginaw. Kickoff for both is scheduled for 7:05 PM local time. Fans can follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long. IFL PROMOTIONS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS
Ruff Riders GM Participates in CMN Telethon Alaska Wild to Host Boys & Girls Flag Football Game Wild Thing Dancers to hold Junior Cheer Camp Ice to sell halfprice tickets to home game Lightening Girls Cookout at Ribfest 2009 VIDSWAP.COM OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK-QB PERRY PATTERSON
The Rochester offense wants the rest of the IFL to know that it isn't just the #1 ranked scoring defense that makes this team a threat. The offensive unit has hit their stride ever since Perry Patterson has taken over the helm at Quarterback. Last week against Saginaw, the Raider signal caller put on an aerial display throwing for five touchdowns and 285 yards. The long bomb seemed to be the play of choice as Patterson threw for scores of 24, 34, 35, 36 and 45 yards and helped the Raiders even their record at 4-4 and one step closer to clinching the final playoff sot in the Atlantic Division.
VIDSWAP.COM DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK-LB LAMONT REID
Players sometimes have good games, and maybe even great games. But rarely do players have DOMINANT games. Against Sioux City last week, Lamont Reid had a dominant performance. The linebacker was involved in virtually every play on defense, and becoming a nightmare for the Bandits running backs and receivers. Reid set a franchise single-game record for tackles with 13, 12 of them solo. The total was also good for the second most by an IFL defender in a single game this season. In addition, he recorded one tackle for a loss, one forced fumble, and recovered an onsides kick to cap off the night.
VIDSWAP.COM SP. TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK-K DYLAN POHLMAN
For the second week in a row, a member of the Wild receives the Special Teams Player of the Week. In last week's game against Sioux City, the leg of Dylan Pohlman was the difference in Wichita's ten point victory. The Kicker was a perfect 4 for 4 on extra point's, hit on 3 of 4 field goal attempts, and had two Rouges on kickoffs. In total, he was responsible for 15 of the 39 Wild points.
The IFL Game of the Week is a rematch of an epic earlier season battle between the Storm and Outlaws. In the first match-up between the two franchises, Sioux Falls held a lead late into the 4th quarter, but with 10 seconds left Outlaws QB Chris Dixon found Receiver James Walton for a score to trail by only one point. Instead of playing for the tie, The Outlaws coach elected to go for the win and converted a two point conversion for a 42-41 victory. This promises to be another knockdown, drag out battle between these two storied franchises. The QB battle between Terrance Bryant of Sioux Falls and Chris Dixon of Billings should be one for the ages. Both signal callers have thrown for over 40 TD passes this season and are among the league leaders in every passing category
Kickoff is slated for this Saturday, June 6th at 7:05 PM. IFL FURTHERS ITS SOCIAL NETWORKING
