This Is How Rivalries Get Started
April 14, 2011 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release
(RICHMOND)- Young franchises and a new league usually mean rivalries have to be developed over time with a few intensely tight games played along the way. Saturday Night's game between the Fayetteville Force and the Richmond Raiders has a basic big game element: it's for first place in the Division. There's going to be a big VCU night crowd complete with the VCU Peppas! All great elements for any game, but this contest is not short of subplots.
The Force have been led in their early season successes by QB Lamar Little, WR Chris Schubert and DB Jerome Mann; all former Raiders. The Force will have several ex-Raiders on their roster for Saturday's showdown. To add a little more interest to the game; Force Defensive Coordinator Charles Gunnings served as the Raiders' Interim Head Coach; finishing out the 2010 season.
Personal rivalries aside; this game will be a matchup of two teams that have already made their mark in the SIFL. Both teams rank high in both total offense and defense. Both teams' kicking games are solid. They even share the same weakness; they both have negative turnover margins (Richmond -4 & Fayetteville -5) which is very unusual for two first place teams. Bottom line; two really explosive teams with a field load of players that have something to prove. That's what rivalries are all about!
The Richmond Raiders continue their 2011 SIFL schedule with a home game with the Fayetteville Force (3-1) April 16 at 7 pm. It is College Night sponsored by VCU.Tickets can be purchased by calling the Raider Ticket Hotline at 804-780-0430 or at ticketmaster.com.
