
Third Time's a Home Upset

PORTLAND - From the opening tip, the visitors had the momentum all night Tuesday at Eastmoreland Courts as the Portland Chinooks were upset by the winless Salem Sabres in the third meeting between the Interstate 5 rivals.
Falling down 8-0 to start the game, the home team couldn't shake their opponent. Trailing 31-26 at the end of twelve minutes, Portland scored the first eight points of the second frame. When David Lucas (6'8" F Oregon State) hit a three-pointer a few minutes in, the Chinooks had their first lead, 34-31. Numerous ties followed over the coming minutes before a 22-11 Sabres run to close the half put the visitors up 65-56 at the break.
The Chinooks widdled the deficit to three midway through the third. Salem pushed it to nine early in the fourth before Portland wiped it all away with a 9-0 advantage to send things to timeout tied at 99 two Chinooks huddled around coach Trevor Kiser accompanied by owner Terry Emmert minutes in. Halfway through the period, the game was still tied at 110 before the Sabres roared back with a 12-2 run to leave town with their first win of the season.
Portland falls to 7-3 and a game and a half out of first place. Salem is 1-3 coming back to Eastmoreland next week.
Jared Cunningham (6'9" F Cleveland State) delivered another all-around game with 28 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Germain Jordan (6'6" F Dillard) came to play with his fifth double-double of the season, 23 points and 16 rebounds. Lucas in his return added a season-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Steffen Harvey was steady as ever with eleven points and nine assists, tying his season best performance for dishes. Antwan Williams added thirteen points and three triples, two down the stretch.
Both are season highs. Salem was led by Tyrone White with 31 points and nine rebounds. Former Oregon Duck Frantz Dorsainvill added 24 points and nine boards as well in his IBL debut.
