Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan - Another tight game goes south late as the Muskegon Lumberjacks' offense could not figure out a way to tally more than one goal in the game as the Youngstown Phantoms would get two big third period goals to walk away with a 4-1 victory tonight at the L.C. Walker Arena.
The Phantoms (31-21-0, 62 points) would get the game's first goal of the night as a scoreless battle for most of the opening period turned the way of the visiting team as Youngstown would create a two-on-one odd man rush after an icing call was called against them. Nathan Walker would pass the puck over to Sam Anas, who would backhand his team-leading 28th goal of the season home top shelf to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead with 52 seconds left and would take that lead into the first intermission. Cam Brown would get the secondary assist on the Anas tally. Muskegon would outshoot Youngstown through one period, 11-8.
The Lumberjacks (28-19-10, 66 points) would get the equalizer early in the second period at the 2:34 mark as Jeff Kubiak would get his second goal in as many nights and 7th of the season as he stuffed a rebound home in front of the Phantoms crease on a shot fired from Brian Morgan from the left faceoff circle. Zach Saar would get the second assist on the Kubiak tally. Later in the middle frame, the Phantoms would regain the lead at 2-1 as a point shot from Ryan Lowney was somehow tipped by Cam Brown in mid-air and made its way past Goaltender Kevin Lindskoug (21-15-6) for his 11th goal of the season at the 11:38 mark. Youngstown would take over the shot battle through two periods, 20-15.
The third period would prove to be the back-breaker for the home team as Youngstown would notch a power play goal with three seconds left on the man advantage and 57 seconds into the period with Austin Cangelosi's 17th goal of the season as he one-timed a shot home that was assisted by Walker and Anas to make it a 3-1 game. Just 46 seconds after the Cangelosi strike, Luke Stork would fire home his 11th goal of the season from Kyle Connor and Brown to increase the lead to 4-1 Youngstown.
The Lumberjacks would have no more answers on offense the rest of the way as they would outshoot the Phantoms in the third period, 20-5, but Phantoms Goaltender Sean Romeo (26-16-0) would save them all.
The Lumberjacks would outshoot the Phantoms for the game, 35-25, and Lindskoug would make 21 saves in the home loss. Youngstown was led offensively by Cam Brown with three points (one goal and two assists). Jeff Kubiak has tallied the last two Lumberjacks goals in as many nights, while Zach Saar picked up his first point as a Lumberjack in 14 games played. The Lumberjacks end the regular season going 2-4-2 against the Phantoms.
