Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Pedro Alvarez smashed a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Hillcats a 9-6 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash on Thursday night at City Stadium. The win gave Lynchburg their second straight series victory to start the season and moved them to 6-2 on the year.
Only two pitches into the game the Dash had a 1-0 lead thanks to a solo home run by Jordan Danks. Winston-Salem would add a run in the frame with the aid of a Hillcats error to make it 2-0 Dash.
It stayed that way until the third when the Cats would strike for four runs to take a 4-2 lead. Alex Presley, Jose De Los Santos and Jordy Mercer had back-to-back-to-back RBI hits in the frame. Two more runs came across in the fifth inning on a two-RBI single by Alvarez to make it a 6-2 game.
That lead held up until the eighth inning when the Dash would rally for four runs in the inning to tie the game at six. Seth Loman, Adam Ricks and Jordan Danks all had RBI doubles in the four run frame.
The Hillcats would save their best of the night for last. With two outs and two on Pedro Alvarez smoked his second home run of the season, and his first since the opening night, over the wall in right for a walk-off three-run shot. Alvarez had six RBI on the night and had 14 RBI over the eight-game homestand despite an 0-for-18 stretch.
R.J Rodriguez (1-0) got the win for Lynchburg (6-2) who has won both of their first two series of the season. The loss went to Miguel Socolovich (0-1) for Winston-Salem (3-5).
The Hillcats play their first road game of the season on Friday night in the first game of a three-game series and road trip at Wilmington. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Frawley Stadium, with left-hander Chi-Hung Cheng (0-0, 0.00) getting the start for the Cats opposite righty Mario Santiago (0-1, 15.00) for the Blue Rocks.
Catch all the live action beginning at 6:40 p.m. with the Hillcats On-Deck Show with the Voice of the Hillcats Scott Bacon on 105.5 FM KD Country.
