San Angelo, Texas---The Colts announced at a 3PM press conference on Thursday they have signed two former Angelo State Rams standouts. San Angelo has re-signed former Angelo State star, catcher Trey Carter, who was a Colts rookie in 2010. They have also signed Outfielder Clay Calfee who was one of the best players in ASU history holding many career and single season marks for the Rams.
Trey Carter, a native Texan from Sherman, Texas played in 44 games for San Angelo last season hitting .317 with 5 homeruns and 23 RBIs, in his first year of pro ball with the Colts before his season came to an unfortunate end with an injury. Carter was not only a former player, but coached at ASU just before he joined the Colts last season. While at Angelo State he was a two-year letter winner for the Rams. As a junior in 2008, Carter was a second-team conference selection while batting .357 with two homers and 27 RBIs. In his senior year he batted .377 with 11 homeruns and 64 RBI and was no slow footed catcher swiping 18 bags, earning him first-team All-Lone Star Conference honors. Trey, also owns the Rams single season record for walks (52) and on-base percentage (.524).
The 6'6" Clay Calfee, will play for the Colts for the first time is also a Texan who hails from Brownwood, Texas and was a standout at Angelo State. Clay was a 2007 and 2008 All-America Honorable Mention and holds ASU career records in average (.404), homeruns (28), RBIs (171), at-bats (592), runs scored (171), hits (239), doubles (55), total bases (392), walks (97), RBIs (171) and slugging percentage (.662). Calfee also holds single season records in slugging (.741), games played (71), putouts (510), fielding percentage (.993) and is among the top three in over dozen other categories. In his senior year in 2008 he hit an amazing .418 with 13 homers and 63 RBI. Clay is also a great all-around athlete beginning his career for Angelo State as a catcher before becoming a standout first baseman and picked up 10 career victories on the mound. After finishing at Angelo State, Calfee was drafted by the Dodgers in the 14th round in 2008 where he spent 2008-2010 in their organization. Clay played in the Pioneer, Arizona, Midwest and California Leagues hitting 15 homeruns and driving in 73 RBIs in 129 career games.
