The Sliders pick up an 11-7 victory

June 14, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders won the opener of a two game series with the Terre Haute Rex tonight by a score of 11-7 at Robin Roberts Stadium. Things didn't start off great for the Sliders as it was Terre Haute who jumped to a 2-0 lead in the very first inning. The lead didn't last long however, as 1B Matt Tellor and LF Mike Fitzgerald hit back to back home runs in the bottom of the first to put Springfield up 3-2. Terre Haute would tie the game in the third, and then take a 5-3 lead with two more in the fifth. Again the lead didn't last long. Tellor hit an RBI double and Fitzgerald then hit a three run home run, his second of the night, as part of a four run fifth inning. The Sliders would tack on four more in the sixth, an inning that was highlighted by a two run triple by SS Michael Hurwitz who was 2-3 on the night, with two walks as well. Terre Haute scored single runs in the seventh and ninth but never seriously threatened the Sliders' lead. These two teams will play again tomorrow night at Robin Roberts Stadium in the finale of this two game series as the Sliders go for their first series sweep of the season. First pitch is set for 6:35 and the game can be heard on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
