The Road to the Memorial Cup

The 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament begins in less than two weeks in Brandon, MB. The host Brandon Wheat Kings will be joined by the Champions of the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in competition for the right to hoist the storied Memorial Cup trophy as Champions of the Canadian Hockey League.

Much is left to be decided as to who will lay claim to the three remaining berths at the tournament, with the WHL, OHL and QMJHL currently playing their respective Championship series.

Here's a look at the three CHL League Championship series, and the battle for the three Memorial Cup berths:

WHL:

The Calgary Hitmen and Tri-City Americans are currently battling in the 2010 WHL Championship series to see who hoists the Ed Chynoweth Cup as 2010 WHL Champs.

The Eastern Conference Champion Hitmen, led by WHL scoring champion Brandon Kozun, currently hold a 2-0 lead over Brendan Shinnimin and the Western Conference Champion Americans in the best-of-seven championship series, having won the opening two games of the series in Calgary.

The Americans are set to host Games 3 and 4 of the series on Tuesday and Wednesday night in Kennewick, WA.

WHL Championship Series

OHL:

The Windsor Spitfires and the Barrie Colts are currently embroiled in a battle for the OHL Championship and a berth in the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament.

The defending OHL and Memorial Cup champion Spitfires, led by top prospect Taylor Hall, currently hold a commanding 3-0 lead over Stefan Della-Rovere and the OHL regular-season champion Colts. Hall's Spitfires have the chance to wrap up their second straight OHL title on Tuesday night at home in Game 4 of the series.

The Colts will host Game 5 of the series, if necessary, on Thursday night in Barrie, ON.

OHL Championship Series

QMJHL:

The Saint John Sea Dogs and the Moncton Wildcats are currently battling in an all-New Brunswick edition of the 2010 QMJHL Championship series.

The Wildcats, led by Canadian national junior team member Gabriel Bourque, currently hold a 2-0 lead over Pittsburgh Penguins' first rounder Simon Despres and the Sea Dogs, having won the series opener on the road before defeating the Sea Dogs 9-3 in Moncton on Sunday.

The Sea Dogs will look to tame the Wildcats and get back in the series with a win in Game 3 on Tuesday night in Saint John, NB.

QMJHL Championship Series
