EL PASO, Texas â Tonight the El Paso Buzzards will make history. Swoop, their tireless ambassador of hockey fun, will be unveiled in his new look and duds prior to a check presentation to the Child Crisis Center.
Swoop, 7, was injured this past summer in an accident during the Power 102 Mascot Olympics. Though Swoop took home second place honors after the grueling inflatable obstacle course, he required some major cosmetic surgery performed by the good doctors Hernandez and Alost at Orthopedic Surgeons Associates. Prior to his surgery which was performed this past week, Swoop and the Buzzards Cheerleaders collected donations from Buzzards fans for local charity Child Crisis Center. Tonight, the new Swoop (created by Street Characters of Calgary, Alberta), will be unveiled by Doctors Alost and Hernandez during the first intermission and in conjunction with OSA and the Buzzards, he will present a jumbo check to Stephanie Dodson of the Child Crisis Center.
The local media is invited to attend tonight's historical event and witness the unveiling of the new team mascot. Swoop, speaking through his representative this afternoon, said he is excited to return to the Nest and looks forward to feasting on Scorpion meat tonight.
The El Paso Buzzards play in the professional Central Hockey League. The team is celebrating their seventh season of play in El Paso and take on the New Mexico Scorpions tonight at 7:00 pm. Tomorrow night, the Buzzards play host to the Lubbock Cotton Kings at 7:00 pm.
