Philadelphia Soul
OurSports Central contributor Fran Stuchbury spoke to Philadelphia Soul owner Jon Bon Jovi at the press conference anncouncing the acquisition of star receiver Chris Jackson Tuesday. In addition to his work as a singer and actor, Bon Jovi has been majority owner of the Arena Football League franchise since its inception in 2004 and has emphasized community involvement with the team.
Fran Stuchbury: Are you pleased with the addition of Chris Jackson? What does he bring to the Philadelphia Soul franchise?
Jon Bon Jovi: Experience, a track record that speaks for itself, a friendship with Soul quarterback Tony Graziani. He's a man of character, I think that he will represent us well. I hope he is a missing piece or another piece towards an ArenaBowl title.
FS: How happy were you when the Philadelphia Soul won the Commissioner's Award for outstanding effort recognizing the Soul front office?
JBJ: I'm very proud of General Manager Rich Lisk and the office staff. We promised the city something, and we're hoping we are delivering.
FS: Do you feel the new practice facility in Voorhees, New Jersey will give the Soul an advantage?
JBJ: I hope it will help us recruit that much better player and make our players happy with our housing and practice facility. It's a continued investment.
FS: How about the Philadelphia Soul schedule having most of its games on the weekends? Are you happy with that?
JBJ: We took a chance building the brand nationally with having Monday games on ESPN so they could fill their TV schedule last season. I think it was a wise investment, but now I feel it gives the opportunity for the family to come to the games.
FS: Do you feel games that will be played in the Spectrum are good for the Soul?
JBJ: They're good, they're at the good 'ol sweaty Spectrum that I went to as a kid, so I like that.
