Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Jan. 9, 2008) -- OK, all you skeptics and soccer haters - we've found a way to make you a fan, at least for one Friday night at a downtown Milwaukee landmark.
Free alcohol.
Every time the Milwaukee Wave scores a goal at Detroit on Jan. 18, patrons attending the Wave viewing party at Major Goolsby's will receive a free shot. When you consider that the Wave average about 6 goals per game, it ought to be a very special night.
Time Warner Sports, Wisconsin's 24-hour sports network, will show the game live beginning at 6:30 p.m. Major Goolsby's, the player sponsor of the Wave's Joe Hammes, will host a party for fans who want to get together and cheer on the Wave in this important game. There's more to the night than just soccer and shots, however:
- See the Wave of Kindness Harley-Davidson and buy raffle tickets to win this one-of-a-kind bike. Check out the signatures, including Pele, Bonnie Blair and William Henderson.
- Meet actor Mark Metcalf, known well for his roles as Niedermeyer in "Animal House" and The Maestro in "Seinfeld."
- Win special Wave prizes.
- Meet Wave players (players TBD).
Major Goolsby's, at the corner of Kilbourn Avenue and 4th Street, was named the No. 4 sports bar in America by Sports Illustrated in 2005. Great viewing angles and an atmosphere rich in memorabilia - along with the famous Major Cheeseburger - make Goolsby's the ideal location to watch the Milwaukee Wave or any sporting event.
Next Friday's game is the fifth of a nine-game package of live Wave contests on Time Warner Sports. The year-old station, on Channel 32 in Milwaukee, also is home to The Keith Tozer Show, featuring the veteran coach of the Wave. Other live games to be shown this season include:
- Jan. 13 @ California, 8:15 p.m.
- Jan. 27 vs. Chicago, 2 p.m.
- March 2 vs. California, 2 p.m.
- April 4 @ Detroit, 6:35 p.m.
- April 5 vs. Monterrey, 6 p.m.
Get to Goolsby's when you get off work next Friday and enjoy the best that Milwaukee has to offer.
